Kolkata, West Bengal | July 15, 2025

United Sympathetic Hands of Relief (Ushor) — a socially-driven organization rooted in the heart of Kolkata — proudly announces its Durga Puja 2025 theme and mission: “To Reach the Unreached.” This year’s initiative transforms the grandeur of Durga Puja into a powerful platform for empathy, inclusion, and meaningful social impact.

Moving beyond lights, rituals, and festivities, Ushor’s campaign is a heartfelt call to uplift those often forgotten in the festive cheer — daily wage earners, single mothers, elderly citizens, children of sex workers, domestic workers, specially-abled children, and residents of remote villages and shelter homes.

Founded by a passionate group of young changemakers, Ushor has earned its identity by blending Bengal’s rich cultural heritage with community-driven action. Over the past years, the organization has worked on impactful projects in education, women empowerment, healthcare, and livelihood development, particularly among marginalized urban and rural populations.

For Durga Puja 2025, Ushor will bring smiles and support through the following key initiatives:

Distribution of 8,000 New Clothes

As part of its annual tradition, Ushor will distribute 8,000 brand-new garments to underprivileged children and adults across various sectors of society. Beneficiaries will include:

  • Children in orphanages and shelter homes
  • Specially-abled children
  • Children of sex workers
  • Residents of old age homes
  • Families in rural Purulia district villages

Each gift of clothing symbolizes dignity, love, and belonging — a small gesture that can light up Puja for those who rarely experience its joy.

Durga Darshan for 200 Orphan Children

For many children growing up in orphanages, the colors and energy of Durga Puja remain out of reach. This year, 200 orphan children will be taken on a guided Durga Darshan tour across prominent pandals in Kolkata and surrounding areas.

  • They will receive nutritious tiffin and lunch from reputed restaurants
  • Dedicated volunteers and caretakers will accompany them throughout the day
  • Special cultural activities and storytelling sessions will help them connect with the spirit of Durga Puja

This initiative aims to create memories of joy, inclusion, and belonging.

500 Food Packets to the Marginalized

During the days of Durga Puja, when the city feasts, Ushor ensures that no one is left hungry. The organization will distribute 500 cooked food packets to:

  • Daily wage earners
  • Street dwellers
  • Domestic workers
  • Elderly individuals living alone or on the streets

These meals, prepared hygienically and with care, symbolize the very essence of compassion and communal sharing that Durga Puja represents.

“Our mission this year is to make Durga Puja not just seen and heard, but felt in the hearts of those who are rarely celebrated. We believe the true spirit of Maa Durga lies in Shakti — the power to uplift, protect, and embrace. Ushor’s journey is about channeling that power into action,” said a spokesperson from Ushor.

As the city gears up with lights and chants of “Jai Maa Durga,” Ushor invites individuals, communities, and partners to come forward and join this beautiful fusion of celebration and service.
