BELAGAVI, KARNATAKA: In a nation where sports are increasingly embraced as tools of social change and youth empowerment, Taekwondo Master Shreepada R. Rao stands as a compelling force of transformation. From humble beginnings in coastal Karnataka to earning global accolades in martial arts, his journey embodies discipline, vision, and community leadership.
From Coastal Roots to National Stature
Born in the serene town of Puttur, Dakshina Kannada, Master Rao’s martial arts journey began at the tender age of nine with Shito Ryu Karate. His discipline evolved further through Shotokan Style Karate, but it was at 16 that Olympic-style Taekwondo captured his heart—under the mentorship of Master Subhash Yadav.
This early passion set the stage for a lifelong commitment to the martial path.
A Visionary Institution Builder
In 2012, Master Rao founded Rao’s Yuva Academy in Kakati Village, Belagavi. What began as a grassroots initiative is now a prestigious institution, officially affiliated with the Taekwondo Federation of India (TFI) since 2014 and ISO 9001:2015 certified.
Earning his 1st Dan Black Belt from Kukkiwon in Seoul, Master Rao has progressed to the 4th Dan, signifying both technical mastery and an unyielding dedication to growth.
Driving Technical Excellence and Fair Play
Over the past decade, he has taken on multifaceted roles—national referee, tournament director, competition planner, and technical official—shaping Taekwondo’s ecosystem in India. Whether officiating the CBSE South Zone Championships, leading operations at the DASARA GAMES CM Cup, or guiding athletes at SGFI trials, his technical acumen ensures integrity, efficiency, and inclusivity.
He also served as Head of Technical Operations at the 41st State Taekwondo Championship (2024), where his expertise in referee training and digital scoring elevated standards.
Integrating Martial Arts into Academia
